Fu Suyin aka Henry Fu, was one of the pioneers among the Mandarin pop idols during the 60s. He was also instrumental in promoting Mandarin pops for EMI Singapore that produces A-Go-Go Queens like Rita Chao and Sakura Teng. Suyin himself was a very popular singer who recorded several albums with The Quests. Some of his recordings include Ramona, Green Green Grass Of Home, Love At First Sight, Lady Jane, Fraulein, Greenfields, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, House Of The Rising Sun, Portrait Of My love, Yesterday, First Bend Of The River, Summer Wine, among others.

If Reggie Verghese is the "Guru" of The Quests, Suyin must be the "Guru" of the Go-Go Queens like Rita and Sakura. He may even be the Mandarin language tutor of The Quests whenever they have to do backup vocals on the 2 ladies recordings ! Sometimes I wonder how did Reggie go about with those Chinese chorus??? Thanks for reminding us about Uncle Suyin.

Dear Jet,
There is Su Yin's version of Lady Jane which is memorable because of the courtly strains of the Quests and then Su Yin comes in with his yearning vocals. It helped he had such a big voice. It put a new spin on a Rolling Stones coming out of left field.

Hey Vernon,
"Kam Siah" for sharing Suyin & The Quests' version of Lady Jane with us. It is something special, different from the Stones version. A good testament of why local music from the 60s was raved about then and even now !
