Diamonds Are Forever
This box-set of 4-CD compilation was released by Universal Music in Hong Kong in 2006. There are a total of 76 tracks featuring the best of Hong Kong pops from the 60s era. Some of the groups and artistes that contributed to this great CD package included Kong Ling, The Fabulous Echoes, Marilyn Palmer, Rowena, Teddy Robin & The Playboys, Danny Diaz & The Checkmates, The Zoundcrackers, The Lotus, Joe Jr & The Side Effects, The Mystics, Anders Nelson & The Inspiration, D'Topnotes, Mod East, The Menace, The Magic Carpet, The Living Set, Mike Souza, Michael Remedios, Deanie Ip, among others.

Tha is interesting ... was it all in english or is it a mixed language CD
Majority of the tracks are in English although there were a few in Mandarin and Cantonese as well. Universal Records did a great job in preserving Hong Kong's local music from the 60s here.
you really have a treasure trove at your place
BTW the agnes chan CD was great . Brought back alot of memories
Pity i cant sing well . Im alittle tone deaf haha
Mei & Vernon,
There are a few more CD compilation released by Universal Records in Hong Kong which offers a mixed of Cantonese, Mandarin & English songs ranging from the 60s to the 90s. Its done in a manner like a journey from the 60s to the 90s, 4 CDs in total. There will always be a few 60s tracks by The Fabulous Echoes, Teddy Robin, Joe Jr to kick-off the album.
Carina
they have a similar album in SG ( english )... but at the time that I passed the stand at Thomson Plaza I didnt have enough on me and im not a plastic money person
but for all those golden oldies 80 plus I think was well worth the spending
This is a first-class compilation boxset that Universal put out, and I am so glad I own a copy. I only wish that they had done their liner notes in English, rather than Mandarin, but the boxset packaging itself is most impressive.
As long as Hong Kong keeps producing this kind of 1960's compilation CD boxsets, and there seems to be quite a few in the recent past, from what I see at this blogsite, I will have to say that the Hong Kong music fans are much more fortunate than the Singapore music fans to be able to recollect and re-enjoy the local music from their younger days.
No doubt about it, we Singapore music fans can only dream of the day when we can be so fortunate ourselves.
Perhaps the main reason it is so much easier for Hong Kong to come up with such compilation boxsets is because Diamond Record had so many stars in their galaxy. I think things were more disjointed in Singapore in the 1960's, with so many different record labels, like Philips and EMI and RCA/Cosdel, for examples, and with so many copyrights and other legal obstacles, so at this time it is unlikely that compilation boxsets in Singapore will be as all-encompassing as what Universal has done in Hong Kong.
But if things can move in that direction in Hong Kong, surely we can have some hope that Universal, or someone else, can do something likewise in Singapore in the near future, before we all get too old to be able to enjoy the music.
This, of course, is only my personal opinion, and I hope it does not offend anybody.
- Just a fan of Singapore 60's Pop Music. Simple mind, simple needs, simple to please, really.
Hi Vernon

Kerry
Kerry,
I bought my copy from Hong Kong a couple of years ago but a friend of mine recently got a copy from HMV Singapore at City Hall. Maybe you can check it out there. Cheers.
Thanks Vernon, I'll try via Internet - I am in Canberra, Australia and I do a 40s-60s show here every Sunday Fortnight on Community radio. I do have a lot of Radio Ceylon stars Fab Echoes being one of them but want to collect the Singapore/HK scene music of the 60s. Any hepl woudl be appreciated.
